It is hide and seek to find this place. (Oakland Shopping Center) But when you do it is the real deal, authentic chinese fresh goods. It is more of a tiny bakery, you can sit down and eat but not a pleasant setting, a definite step back in time. No outside sign, no effort to decorate, this is raw, what you see is what you get. Like the old days, this place is what I grew up with, a family owned business where the baby and small child are in the small work area (of course obedient and quiet), other side of counter, while Mom works the baking, slicing, counter, cashier, scooping. cleaning, etc. They are limited in English, be ready to come with a good pointer finger, pictures, of what you want. Foods are piled on the side of a very small counter. There is a hand written poster on the wall of what they have, but not really helpful. I usually get fresh rice flat noodles there, rice cake, steamed BBQ buns, shrimp rice noodle rolls, fresh soy bean milk. Oh, the prices are cheap. But as usual CASH ONLY.

The Asian Prepared Food shop is nothing to fancy. Don't let the appearance fool you. This tiny restaurant makes wonderful fresh noodles and tofu. Arrive early because quantities are limited. One of my favorite treats they have is their tofu pudding.

Been coming here since i was a little girl, still the only and best place to get tofu fa, tofu pudding, tofu dessert whatever we called it in english. (豆腐花) and if u wanna make ur own beef chow fun or just chow fun with soup they make the best chow fun, the same ones u would get in if not all at least most authentic to americanized chinese restraunts. Love their soy milk too. Dont expect too much from ambiance, but expect really well made traditional chinese style snacks and breakfast as well as hand-made noodles (to bring home and eat or prepare.

The shop's name doesn't give you much clue as to what they offer, and indeed when you walk in, you'll find that they sell a variety of home-made Asian food, without much theme to it. Mostly Chinese or Vietnamese food, they include noodles, Chinese tamale, Chinese cruller, pandan cake, sugar cake, Vietnamese sausage, tofu pudding, fried tofu and more... When chatting with the owner, who originally came from Macau, it seems like over time he has expanded his offering when customers start asking for this or that, trying his best to bring the taste of home to Asian expats. The reason I come here is for their tofu pudding. It's very soft, custardy, silky tofu floating in a bowl of ginger sugar syrup. I'd stand by the counter (if the only table is taken) to eat it as after the trip home it won't taste as good. Fortunately other food survives the trip better, so we only take home some noodles, tamale, Vietnamese sausage, or whatever catches our fancy, to enjoy in the week to come. If you grow up with the food they sell, you'll love this place for the food you're nostalgic about. And the food is honestly well made. If not, it'll be quite a food adventure.

It's almost Chinese New Year, get your Chinese Sweet Cake here (Neen Gow)! It's great that this small unprentencious little store produces some many items. As other reviewers have put picture, tofu pudding, honeycomb cake (although it's not honeycomb), cheong fun, and many more. To my surprise they have the Chinese Sweet Cake, which is a typical staple for Chinese New Year. As days pass, this Cake tends to get harder, therefore frying it with some battered eggs will make it flakier on the outside. Texture wise after frying it a bit, it will be like mochi. This rice cake is done with sweet rice flour, sugar, milk and sometimes with red beans. Thank you Asian Prepared Foods for having this special item!
